Award Nominations

The purpose of the OkHIMA awards is to honor OkHIMA members for outstanding contribution to the profession and the professional association at various levels. Additionally, it is established to encourage members to contribute to the development and growth of the profession and to increase public awareness of the scope and importance of the profession within the delivery of healthcare services.

Procedure for Nomination

Recognition:

  1. Plaque presentation at the annual meeting.
  2. Free registration to attend the annual meeting where the award is to be presented.
  3. Recognition in the OkHIMA newsletter and on the OkHIMA website.

General Guidelines

  1. Only OkHIMA members are eligible to submit nominations for the award.
  2. The nominations must be submitted via electronic submission and requires all information to be included from approved form.
  3. The nomination form must be signed by the person making the nomination, along with e-mail address. Entire form must be complete.
  4. An award review committee will be formed to review and score the submissions received.
  5. Nominations must be submitted by March 1st.

Award Categories

Rising Star Award

The Rising Star Award recognizes a promising newcomer to the field, who demonstrates exceptional motivation, capability, and leadership potential with great capacity for significant accomplishment in the field.

Eligibility

  • Nominee must be an active OkHIMA Member
  • Less than 10 years in the HIM Profession
  • Nominee must not have received this award in the previous 5 years
  • Must meet at least 2 of the commendable attributes below.

Commendable Attributes

  • Exhibits leadership qualities in the workplace and/or HIM Community
  • Expertise, passion and ability to inspire others
  • Commitment to excellence and leadership
  • Involvement in volunteer activities at the local, state and/or national level
  • Willingness to challenge tradition, take risks and make changes to improve processes.

HIM Champion Award

The HIM Champion Award recognizes individuals that have advanced the HIM profession by volunteering and demonstrating excellence in mentoring and encouraging students or colleagues to achieve their best.

Eligibility

  • Nominee must be an active OkHIMA Member
  • Nominee must not have received this award in the previous 5 years
  • Must meet at least 2 of the commendable attributes below.

Commendable Attributes

  • Encourage professionals to become involved with OkHIMA/AHIMA Activities
  • Supported the training process for new professionals through teaching/mentoring, serving on panel presentations, and advising students and new professionals.
  • Fosters enthusiasm for the profession
  • Exceptional and consistent (minimum two years) volunteer services with OkHIMA
  • Motivating Individuals to enter the HIM field, providing career guidance to students, or motivating colleagues to realize their full potential.
  • Consistent volunteer services with other professional organization(s).

Distinguished Member Award

The Distinguished Member Award recognizes an individual with a long, exceptional history of HIM contributions and is awarded to an outstanding individual in the field. This award replaced the OkHIMA Outstanding Member Award.

Eligibility

  • Nominee must be an active OkHIMA Member
  • Nominee must not have received this award in the previous 5 years
  • Must meet at least 4 of the commendable attributes below.

Commendable Attributes

  • Made meaningful and lasting contributions through their services to elevate the practice of HIM
  • Held various elected and appointed volunteer positions in the state association
  • Contributed to the HIM profession by mentoring
  • Contributed to education via published materials
  • Candidates for this award have made significant sustained contributions to the advancement of the disciples of HIM education, and advancement of the profession through innovation and knowledge sharing
  • Displayed innovation and creativity that exceeds ordinary problem-solving ability
  • Speaker at HIM conferences and other education events
  • Serving the needs of OkHIMA members through advocacy of patient rights and confidentiality or educating the public regarding health information
  • Provide inspiration, guidance and opportunities for emerging leaders to participate in OkHIMA volunteer structure and to build meaningful leadership experiences
