OKSHINE Policy Updates

Last month, the Oklahoma Health Care Authority Board of Directors voted to approve permanent rules for Oklahoma health information exchange. The previous rules were in effect as emergency rules.

The final rule expands exemption categories. At its discretion, the Office of the State Coordinator for HIE may allow exemptions from participating in the HIE based on the type of health care provider, financial hardship, size of practice, or technological capability.

Additionally, broad-based exemptions may be granted and will be posted to the HIE website. Providers who meet the criteria for a broad-based exemption will not need to submit an individual request for exemption. Exemptions must be renewed annually unless otherwise specified.
